 On June 28, 2013, fighting erupted between Gharri and Degodia militias at Malka Mari and Shirshir. It was said that over 40 people were killed and many more wounded from both sides. However, the Gharri people have gained the upper hand and were able to evict the Degodia militias from two camps that have been occupied by the Degodia for the past 6 weeks.

The Degodia militia over ran about 30 Gharri police officers that were stationed at Malka Mari and began terrorizing several adjacent Gharri communities. But, their occupation of Malka Mari ended in a dramatic fashion. The Degodia terrorists were forcibly removed on Friday June 28, 2013 from both camps that had been under their control for over a month. So, they left behind their dead, food rations, and weaponry.
