ON August 14, 2011 one Burji owned passenger vehicle was ambushed by unknown gunmen who robbed the passengers, and killed two Burji men. It was said that one of the victims was believed to be a ranking member of the Kenyan armed forces inspector. However, the Burji community members are finger pointing to Oromo rebels as the perpetrators since they have been active seen or known in the area. Now, there is very high tension between the Burji community and the government for not doing enough.

Also, according to information received from Moyale, Ethiopia, there have been skirmishes between the Gabra and Borana communities at Shawa Barre. The incidents were caused by the Gabra citizen’s construction of residential housing without a proper permit. But, it was alleged that the Borana community members took the law into their own hands and attempted to stop and or demolish what had been built. But the local authorities intervened right away the situation now calmed down since.

On August 14, 2011, there has been reported that one Gharri herder was beaten up badly by the Borana gang at Arro-Daye near Borbor and his gun was taken by said perpetrators. However, a GSG reporter has learned that the above mentioned  incident was not caused by the Borana citizen but, by the Gharri herders. The Gharri herders went to the Borana owned Ranch and forced themselves onto the Borana owned gated grazing ranch known as “Kallo”. They beat up the ranch owner’s family members and injuring two of them. Subsequently, one Gharri man was injured. The injured people have been taken to Borbor area clinic and the situation is now under control.
