ON August 14, 2011 one Burji owned passenger vehicle was
ambushed by unknown gunmen who robbed the passengers, and killed two Burji
men. It was said that one of the victims was believed to be a ranking member
of the Kenyan armed forces inspector. However, the Burji community members
are finger pointing to Oromo rebels as the perpetrators since they have been
active seen or known in the area. Now, there is very high tension between
the Burji community and the government for not doing enough.
Also, according to information received from Moyale,
Ethiopia, there have been skirmishes between the Gabra and Borana
communities at Shawa Barre. The incidents were caused by the Gabra citizen’s
construction of residential housing without a proper permit. But, it was
alleged that the Borana community members took the law into their own hands
and attempted to stop and or demolish what had been built. But the local
authorities intervened right away the situation now calmed down since.
On August 14, 2011, there has been reported that one Gharri
herder was beaten up badly by the Borana gang at Arro-Daye near Borbor and
his gun was taken by said perpetrators. However, a GSG reporter has learned
that the above mentioned incident was not caused by the Borana citizen but,
by the Gharri herders. The Gharri herders went to the Borana owned Ranch and
forced themselves onto the Borana owned gated grazing ranch known as “Kallo”.
They beat up the ranch owner’s family members and injuring two of them.
Subsequently, one Gharri man was injured. The injured people have been taken
to Borbor area clinic and the situation is now under control. |
